Basketball legend Ernie DiGregorio

Sports Theory Productions Season 2 Episode 12

Today we release the long awaited Ernie D interview. The Providence College basketball legend and North Providence, RI native joins us to talk about his basketball journey. We take the journey with him from his early years as a kid growing up and falling in love with the game of basketball, through his time as a PC Friar, where he was a 3-time All-American, leading his team to the 1973 Final Four. Ernie talks about being the 3rd overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft and winning the 1974 NBA rookie of the year award, and gives his opinion of the modern day game of basketball versus the game as it was played back when he was playing. He tells us what it was like getting to play for the team he grew up rooting for, the Boston Celtics, and what motivated him to practice 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, constantly working to improve his game.

Ernie's new book, Star With A Broken Heart, will be on sale in December 2020. The book tells the untold stories of Ernie DiGregorio, Marvin Barnes and Dave Gavitt, and their battles on and off the court. You can order a signed first edition copy at ernied.com.
